Angela Evelyn Bassett has been an American actor since the late 1980s. Her name has been praised by the media and for her television work since the 1980s. The awards she has won are two Golden Globe Awards, sixteen NAACP Image Awards as well as nominations for Academy Awards and Primetime Emmy Awards. Bassett was raised by her aunt in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Born and grew up within New York New York. Bassett and her sister, at the age of five old, made the move from New York to St. Petersburg to live with their mother, who was the separated father. In high school, Bassett watched John Steinbeck's drama Of Mice and Men starring James Earl Jones and decided she would like to be an actor.
